META DYN GP: Alias Dimensions

Summary:

This article details how to use Alias Dimension on Header, Line and Dimension.    Alias Dimensions are necessary when you have the same Dimension with different values in different Factsets or Dimensions.

Method:

1.  We are going to use Sales Person for an example.     In this case you can have Sales Person on the Sales Line, Sales Header and Customer Dimensions.    If you use the same link for all three then it will on pull on a single value.     To resolve this you need to use Alias Dimensions.
2. Alias Dimensions are the same Dimension with a different name so that SQL can assign a different alias letter to perform the SQL query.

3. Go to the Metadata Tool into the Dynamics GP integration.     Scroll down the the Sales Person Dimensions.   

   

   4.  Go to the Customer Dimension and look at the Links.    It will link the Sales Person Dim 

   

   5.  Go the Sales Order Detail and look at the links.   The Link is to the Sales Person Line

   

   6.  Last go the Sales Order Header and look at the links.   

   

   7.   When the Report is executed it then will assign a different SQL Alias to each of the Dimensions.
